Note from Kyle: ASU and Applied Materials to create Materials-to-Fab Center at ASU Research Park

I am excited to highlight what will be a significant milestone in the Southwest as a nexus for research, translation and training in semiconductors and microelectronics. You’ve likely started seeing news regarding a groundbreaking development that was announced this week at the SEMICON West conference in San Francisco.

Arizona State University and Applied Materials, Inc. are proud to announce an alliance that will bring more than $270 million to establish the Materials-to-Fab (MTF) Center. This state-of-the-art, shared research, development and prototyping facility will be housed in the MacroTechnology Works building at ASU Research Park, advancing our status as a world-class innovation hub. Applied Materials has partnered with ASU and the Fulton Schools of Engineering for several years, and we value this opportunity for even more extensive collaboration.

The MTF Center represents a critical step forward as America builds its end-to-end microelectronics infrastructure. State investment from the New Economy Initiative and Arizona Commerce Authority, along with more than $200 million from Applied Materials, will create the infrastructure needed for researchers from academic institutions, industry partners, startups and government entities to transition innovations from lab to fab. Researchers and leaders in the Fulton Schools of Engineering will be integral to the advancements taking place in the MTF Center and we value your collaboration as we move forward.
